The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) in South Africa has announced the nominees for the National Arts and Culture Awards (NACA) 2025, celebrating achievements in the creative sector. These awards recognize artists and institutions that have contributed to South Africa’s cultural identity through various fields, including literature, design, visual arts, heritage, and performance.
Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture emphasizes that the awards are not just about recognition, but also about acknowledging the nation’s past, celebrating its growth, and inspiring future possibilities. In anticipation of the live ceremony scheduled for August 22 at Sun City, a national digital campaign will promote the nominees across DSAC platforms.
The nominees in different categories include notable names. In the Heritage Category, nominees for the Outstanding Cultural Landscape Award include Kedar Heritage Lodge and Freedom Park Heritage Site Museum. For the Outstanding Museum Award, KZN Museum and William Humphreys Art Gallery are recognized.
In the Literary Category, nominees for Outstanding Book, Fiction Award include “The Equality of Shadows” by Charl-Pierre Naudé. Other categories include Outstanding Children’s Fiction Book and Outstanding Publisher Award, with nominees such as Andrea Nattrass and Joanne Hichens.
The Design Category highlights nominees for Outstanding Architecture or Interior Designer, including Asher Zachary Marcus. The Visual Arts Category features nominees for Outstanding Visual Artist Award like Malebogo Naticia Molokoane.
In the Performing Arts Category, nominees for Outstanding Musician Award include Wayne Bosch and outstanding theatre productions such as “Nkoli the Vogue. ” The Audiovisual Category includes documentary films like “Language of My Soul,” enhancing the diverse representation across nominations.
